Chuka Ranked Among Top 15 Kenyan Universities

Last time, Chuka University students were outraged after their university was ranked at the bottom five institutions in Kenya. Apparently, Spanish research firm Webometrics had ranked Chuka University as the 43rd best university out of 44 chattered Kenyan universities.

However, tables have turned as our campus has moved up a few steps and can now floss as being on the same level with other top Kenyan universities. Top University ranking firm- 4 International Colleges and Universities has placed Chuka at number 22 out of 51 fully chartered institutions.

Among public universities, Chuka emerges as number 11. See table below of the top 15 public universities in Kenya;

However on the full list, which obviously includes both Private and Public universities, Chuka University was placed at number 22 out of 51. See screenshot below;

So why did we suddenly rise up the ranks within a span of less than six months?

We are the answer to that question. Webometric ranking summarizes the global performance of the University, provides information for candidate students and scholars, and reflects the commitment to the dissemination of scientific knowledge. This means that lack of visibility of a specific institution on the web leads to a worrying level of academic digital divide.

Last time we promised you that the launching of the biggest blog- Chuka University Gossip was going to see our campus move up in terms of rankings and indeed we have. The coming up of other small blogs and creation of a Chuka Uni awards scheme where voting could only be done online might have also accelerated the improvement.
