18 Chuka University Students Alleged To Have Caused The Strike Have Been Freed
Former CUSA chair aspirant Ken Waringa together with other 17 Chuka University students alleged to have been behind the protests that led to the closure of the Institution in February have been liberated from the cases holding them in the school environs.
Apparently, at the Chuka Law Courts, Principal Magistrate Alfred Kibiru dropped the charges against the 18 students after the prosecutor cited lack of evidence. The 17 students had been arrested on the day of the strike for destruction of public and private property as well as causing unrest and disturbances in the institution and its environs, while Ken Waringa was later summoned and arrested for being the cause of the protests.
Every suspect had been released on a Ksh.50,000 bail early last month as police had requested more time to interrogate the students over destruction of property and looting at Ndagani shopping centre. According to unconfirmed reports, students were being called at random and being asked if they knew anything or anyone who could have been protesting.
A source close to one of the affected victims, informed Chuka Uni Gossip through our Facebook page that their cases had been dropped after the jury cited lack of tangible evidence. The source further revealed to us that the Ksh.50,000 cash bail they had been awarded earlier was refunded.

It's two months since the University was closed down following student's unrest and the school administration has no officially communicated reporting dates. However, the Sec gen recently revealed that 1st years and 4th yr students should be back in the institution on April 21st.
