Professor Njoka Defies Court Order To Readmit Expelled Chuka University Students
45 Chuka University students were a few weeks ago kicked out of the campus for reportedly participating in the destruction of property during the chaotic strike that led to the closure of the varsity on January 29th. 36 students however seemed to have been saved by the law after Milimani court ordered the school administration to readmit the affected.
36 students who were expelled from Chuka University in Tharaka Nithi County have filed a contempt of court against the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Erastus Nyaga Njoka.
The students claim the university declined to re-admit them even after producing a court order directing the institution to accept them back.
Early this month, High Court Judge Weldon Korir said the students should return to school upon payment of fees, in order to preserve the interest of the university. Justice Korir directed that their examination results be withheld, pending hearing and determination of the application.
He however made clear that the order by the court will lapse if the students engage in further acts of violence.
