Prof. Erastus Njoka Explains Why Chuka University Was Ranked Second Last In Kenya
On 11th May, the Chuka University Vice chancellor together with the CUSA officials held a meeting with the students present at the school at that time (first and fourth years). Agendas dwelled upon were poor university rankings, strike and the institution's security.
On February, Chuka University students had protested over the poor metrics. This was after the university had been ranked at 43rd best university out of 44 chattered Kenyan universities by the Spanish research firm Webometrics. For your information, Webometrics tops the list of the four best major global University & College ranking firm.
The comrades who had cried for an explanation from the school Administration can now cease the flow of their tears, thanks to Chukaunigossip for tabling the cries online through our website.
Last week, the VC Prof. Erastus Njoka finally talked to the students concerning the poor cybermetric rankings citing that students should not spend more time lamenting on the rank they were given since they don't really mean nothing.

For those who don't get how Webometrics ranks universities, here's a brief explanation; Webometric ranking summarizes the global performance of the University, provides information for candidate students and scholars, and reflects the commitment to the dissemination of scientific knowledge. This means that lack of visibility of a specific institution on the web leads to a worrying level of academic digital divide.

The school administration is still working to better the performance of the official website; www.chuka.ac.ke and have also created several social media accounts to improve their presence online. Chukaunigossip has also played it's part by launching a news website that updates students latest events in the school. With such commitment, the university could rise by a few positions in next time's webometrics.

Web rankings would be really helpful if their metrics were based on the strength and quality of education or degrees offered at the institutions rather than measuring the activity and visibility of the universities on the internet
