Why 9 Expelled Students Won't Be Readmitted Back To Chuka University
About a month ago, forty five students from Chuka University faced expulsion for allegedly causing the riots that led to the indefinite closure of the institution in February. However, earlier this month, former CUSA chair aspirant Kennedy Omondi Waringa took the matter to court where the university was forced to re-admit the expelled students.
On 4th May, the High court allowed 36 out of the alleged 45 expelled students to contest their expulsion. Apparently, the students who had been kicked out of the university were distressed by the move made by Chuka University Senate to send them home after the administration led disciplinary hearings.
On 9th May, High Court judge Weldon Korir said the students should return to school upon payment of fees, in order to preserve the interest of the university. Justice Korir directed that their examination results be withheld, pending hearing and determination of the application. He however made clear that the order by the court will lapse if the students engage in further acts of violence.
So if 36 out the forty something expelled students have been saved by the law, what happens to the remaining 9 students? I called Ken Waringa asking him why some of the expelled students could not get the chance to be readmitted into Chuka University. Ken claimed that other students had decided to move on and had applied to study in private universities while others failed to cooperate with him.
