36 Chuka University Students Set To Contest Their Expulsion In Court

Three weeks ago, forty five Chuka University students were expelled from the institution for allegedly participating in the destruction of property during the chaotic strike that led to the closure of the varsity on January 29th. However, on 4th May, the High court allowed 36 students to contest their expulsion.

They are distressed by the choice made by Chuka University Senate to send them home after university administration led disciplinary hearings.

The decision by the university and the Senate to expel the scholars was malicious, unlawful, oppressive and in total breach of natural justice and the rules and regulations of the university,” the complainants, through attorney Apollo Mboya, told Justice Isaac Lenaola.

Mboya said the university disciplinary committee that recommended the expulsion was not appropriately constituted and did not accord the students fair administrative action.

Further, he said, the expulsion had disrupted the academic life of the students, who missed crucial lectures and final examinations.
